Chief says boy found on Wasagamack First Nation died of exposure
Wasagamack First Nation Chief Alex McDougall says that a 17-year-old boy whose body was found Wednesday died of exposure.
RCMP say they won’t release any further details until they have an autopsy report, and McDougall said the community will wait to comment any further.
"We lost one of our young people due to exposure," the chief said. "We are waiting on the results of the medical examiner’s autopsy. (Then) We’ll make final arrangements for the deceased and the family."
The boy’s body was found around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday outside a residence.
McDougall said that the RCMP have not issued any warnings and do not appear to be searching for suspects.
Cpl. Miles Hiebert would not say if the boy showed any signs of inury.
Wasagamack is 281 kilometres southeast of Thompson.
