Christmas tree goes up at city hall

The city put up its annual Christmas tree today, a 17-metre high Colorado spruce donated by River Heights resident Mabel Lam.
It’s one of the tallest trees ever to be installed at city hall.
Winnipeg’s urban forestry crew showed up at the Lam property at 8 a.m. to cut the tree down and move it on a flatbed truck to its new location for the yuletide season. A crane moved the tree into position.
The forestry crew gets the job of decorating the massive fir with 9,000 multi-coloured LED lights, a job that’s expected to take several days.
