City moves to automated garbage and recycling carts Monday

Today is the last day of manual garbage collection before Winnipeg moves to automated garbage and recycling carts on Monday.

The remaining 165,000 households in the city will start using the carts next week. In August, 24,000 households in the former autobin areas switched over to the new system.

City of Winnipeg officials said all single-family households should have a 240-litre garbage cart, a 240-litre recycling cart, and a user guide which explains how to use them.

Starting next week, every household will have garbage and recycling collection on a set day of the week, instead of the old cycle system. Yard waste will be collected every two weeks on collection day.
