A city committee has voted to make Winnipeg's future contracts more transparent and asked city administration to report on the penalties and complaints levied against waste collectors.
The move comes after several members of city council urged Winnipeg's public service to release the amount of fines levied against Emterra for poor service.
Emterra began collecting garbage and recyling in the former AutoBin areas on Aug. 1 and from 165,000 househoulds city-wide on Oct. 1.
City officials have since told public works chairman Coun. Dan Vandal (St. Boniface) Emterra has been fined between $350,000 and $450,000.
This afternoon, Vandal moved a motion calling on the city's public administration to report to the committee on the status of all private waste collector contracts, including number of complaints and penalties incurred.
Council's public works committee supported the idea.
