City police make arrest in 2006 homicide

  • Print

Winnipeg police have made an arrest in a homicide case dating back to 2006.

Darrel Lavallee, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder due to his alleged involvement in the death of 29-year-old Steven Pelletier on or about Oct. 4, 2006.

An investigation determined Pelletier was lured and eventually forced into a home in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue, where he was assaulted by another male. He was then shot during the altercation, and died as a result of the injuries.

It’s believed the suspect, with the help of others, removed Pelletier’s body from the Magnus home and dumped it outside city limits.

A month later, Pelletier’s family filed a missing persons report to police. After a lengthy investigation by the homicide unit and missing persons unit, investigators determined that Lavallee may have been involved.

Lavallee was arrested Friday while incarcerated at the Stony Mountain Institution. After being processed, he was returned to the institution.

Police indicate the homicide investigation is ongoing.
