City slowly emerging from heavy snowfall

City plows are out this morning but most residential streets in Winnipeg are so clogged, you might need a shovel to dig yourself out.
Most roads are snow-covered and treacherously slippery across southern Manitoba. The winds are northeast 20 kilometres an hour, and it's a high of -6 C today.
Since Monday morning, Winnipeg received about 13 centimetres of snow, while Brandon got about 20 centimetres. Some smaller communities in southwestern Manitoba really took a hit, including Miami with more than 40 cm of snow.
Moving forward, expect plenty of sunshine and high of -7 C in Winnipeg, but flurries are in the forecast for Thursday.
Meanwhile, the provincial highways department said Highway 5, from the Trans-Canada to Highway 68, has been reopened this morning after a closure early Monday afternoon.
And the Yellowhead (Highway 16) has been reopened from highway 50 to the community of Newdale.
The storm may be over but school isn't necessarily back in. You are advised to call your child's school or the division office to find out if classes are on today.
Many divisions in southern Manitoba, like Border Land, Pine Creek, Red River Valley, Prairie Spirit and Turtle Mountain have cancelled classes.
Brandon School Division has closed Spring Valley School. All other schools are open but no school buses are operating outside the city.
