City's year-over-year new-home prices jump

WINNIPEG— Winnipeg had one of the biggest year-over-year jumps in new-home prices in the country in May, although the increase from the previous month was only minor.

New Statistics Canada figures released today show Winnipeg’s new housing price index rose by 0.2 per cent from April to May, but was up 4.4 per cent from a year earlier.

Although the month-to-month gain was one of the smaller ones among the 21 cities surveyed, the year-over-year increase was the second biggest after Toronto/Oshawa’s 5.5 per cent, the figures show.

Nationally, Canada’s monthly gain was 0.3 per cent, while the year-over-year increase was 2.4 per cent.
