A proposed new subdivision for the city’s southeast corner was endorsed by a civic committee this morning.
The new subdivision, tentatively known as Dawson Trail, will be built on 117 acres in a triangular parcel of land bounded by Fermor Boulevard, Plessis Road and Dawson Road.
"This is going to be a good development for an area of Winnipeg that is experiencing growth," Coun. Dan Vandal said at the Riel community committee meeting.
The new subdivision joins established neighbourhoods Southland Park and Sage Creek, which is still in development, in an 988-acre parcel of land between Fermor and Bishop Grandin Boulevard, east of Lagimodiere Boulevard.
An administrative report states Dawson Trail would consist of 58 acres of large commercial development fronting along Fermor; 27 acres of mixed commercial-residential development; 15 acres of multi-family development; and 14 acres of park and recreation space.
Specific details on the project are not available. A spokesman for the developer could not be reached for comment.
Vandal proposed that the subdivision’s park area be named after Olympic champion curler Jennifer Jones.
The proposal will be reviewed by the property and development committee and then go to council for approval.
