The City of Winnipeg plans to sell off John Blumberg Golf Course and ask an independent operator to run for other sets of links.
On Friday, council’s alternate service delivery committee will consider a proposal to declare the John Blumberg course surplus and sell it off. The report also a calls or the city to enter into a 20-year lease with a firm called GolfNorth Properties to operate and maintain the city-owned Kildonan Park, Windsor Park, Crescent Drive and Harbour View golf courses.
The city expects to earn $760,000 more from the independent operation of these four golf courses that it would if it continues to operate them on its own, the report states.
If approved by council, the lease will result in three full-time city employees moving to other jobs. The equivalent of 16 full-time seasonal jobs and six student jobs would be eliminated. Those employees would be eligible to apply for other season city work, based on their seniority, the report states.
