Couple's $10,000 bid earns them stadium rum hut

Irv and Sandi Koch, who have been season ticket holders to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers since 1970, made the winning bid of $10,000 to purchase the Appleton Rum Hut at a special auction Thursday evening at Canad Inns Stadium.

The couple lives in Stonewall.

The tiki bar-inspired rum hut has been a favourite meeting place and watering hole for Bombers fans at the stadium since it was moved there shortly after the 1999 Pan Am Games.

The rum hut was the centerpiece of an evening auction of Canad Inns Stadium memorabilia. The Bombers will play at Investors Group Field at the University of Manitoba next season.

Money raised from the sale will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
