Cyclist in critical condition after being hit by car in North End

  • Print

A 40-year-old male cyclist remains in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in the North End early this morning.

Shortly after 2 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of Salter Street and College Avenue after reports of a vehicular accident.

A cyclist was located and transported to hospital in critical condition and members of central traffic are still on scene investigating what happened. The intersection of Salter and College was re-opened to traffic shortly after 10 a.m.

Police say the cyclist was eastbound in the lane between College Avenue and Boyd Avenue. Without stopping, the cyclist exited the lane directly into the path of a southbound vehicle. The driver immediately stopped, called 911 and remained on scene.

Police say they're considering alcohol consumption by the cyclist as a factor in this collision.
