Cyclist killed after being hit by vehicle in Transcona

  • Print

An early-morning vehicle crash in Transcona has killed one cyclist.

Police said that shortly before 7:30 a.m. today emergency crews were sent to the area of Stapon Road and Regent Avenue West after reports of a vehicular collision.

A cyclist was found in unstable condition and taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The cyclist had been traveling southbound across Regent in the pedestrian corridor against the red light when he was struck by a vehicle headed east in the curb lane.

The driver of the vehicle, an adult woman, was interviewed by police and neither speed nor alcohol are being considered factors in the case.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with more information who hasn’t yet spoken to police is asked to call (204) 986-6271. Investigators are hoping to speak with one man in particular, the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro who was stopped at the intersection at the time of the collision and may have witnessed the incident.
