Deer Lodge reviewing patient care after complaints

The quality of care at Deer Lodge Centre’s chronic care unit is under review following complaints from patients and family members.
The review began in February to look at the quality of care over the last 18 months in the 44-bed unit called Lodge 6.
Réal Cloutier, chief operating officer, said new management took over the unit in February and the review began with patients and families asked to take part in a survey and interviews. Cloutier said 17 families and one patient took part and 37 employees who work in the unit were interviewed.
"With this situation, there were common themes arising from the families that triggered this, (like) inconsistencies in following the care plan for patients and staff being respectful in their communication with families."
