Environment Canada is reporting the temperature was a chilly -34.5C at 9 a.m., which, thanks to the wind, feels like -40C with the wind chill.
The forecast is for sunny skies with more cloud moving in by noon followed by light snow.
The mercury will top out at -21C with a wind chill of -34C.
The weather service is predicting the temperature will begin rising through the night so that by Monday morning it will reach -10C followed by a high during the day of -6C. There will be some snow through the night.
Tuesday is predicted to reach a high of -8C while Wednesday begin the crawl back down to below normal temperatures with -13C, -17C on Thursday, and -24C on Friday and Saturday.
Normal temperatures at this time of year is a high of -10C and a low of -20C.
Saturday’s temperature reached a high of -21.9C and a low of -33.2C
