Deep freeze hits city

The skies are clearing, but with the sun come bitter winds out of the northwest: We’re plunging into a deep freeze.

Temperatures of -10 C Sunday morning are the warmest southern Manitoba is forecast to see until the end of the week.

By afternoon, it will be -14, according to the Environment Canada forecast for Winnipeg.

Tonight the temperature will drop to -29, making it feel like -34 with the windchill.

It’s much the same story for most of the week: Highs in the minus teens and lows in the -20s.

On Friday, clouds return and the temperature is projected to reach a high of -5 and a low of -11.

City plows were out overnight, clearing most major and collector routes, but roads are slippery and drivers are urged to slow down, especially at intersections.
