Despite pornography charges, Mr. Jetz puts up recruitment posters near school

  • Print

A Winnipeg man facing child pornography charges has been spotted putting up recruiting posters outside a River Heights high school.

Darrell Ackman, 43, claims to be casting "Mr. Jetz The Movie". The poster says he’s looking for people who are "fun, open minded, with a nice look." No experience is required, the poster reads. It features pictures of young women and an image of pop star Justin Bieber.

Winnipeg police confirmed they are investigating a complaint.

Grant Park principal Yale Chochinov said the school removed the posters and contacted police. "We increased our surveillance after school and today and are considering contacting parents," he said.

Ackman was arrested last year for allegedly recruiting teen runaways for child porn videos. He is also charged with several child prostitution related charges. His case was recently thrown into limbo when he and his lawyer parted ways.

Ackman was in the news when he posted provocative videos on YouTube under the name Mr. JetzTV. He also got 130 people to sign his nomination papers in Fort Whyte when he ran in the provincial byelection there last September despite pending criminal charges.

A River Heights man who saw Ackman putting up the posters outside Grant Park High School said he recognized him from media reports.

"We crossed paths. I asked him what he thought he was doing. I didn’t want to have a confrontation," said the man, who contacted police.

Ackman is also wanted in Florida on prostitution charges dating back to 2010.
