Farewell to Broadway, hello to the Beltway

WASHINGTON — It’s just after sun-up in Washington’s tony Rock Creek Park area. The air is crisp and scented by the wet leaves and lush foliage of a nearby ravine.

On a street corner just off the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue NW known as Embassy Row, Canada’s newest ambassador to the United States emerges from the front doors of a Georgian-style mansion.

The 80-year-old red brick house, with a swimming pool out back and Rock Creek across the street, is where Gary Doer will hang his hat while he heads up the biggest Canadian Embassy in the world.
