Driver escapes after truck goes through river ice

A 50-year-old man from the RM of Brokenhead escaped with his life Wednesday after his truck broke through the ice on the Red River.

Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 p.m. after reports that a 2006 Dodge pickup truck being driven on the river near Selkirk had fallen through.

The man was able to get out of the truck before it went under. There were no passengers.

RCMP would like to remind motorists and people using the ice for recreation that conditions can be different from one area to the next and to be aware of hazards.

Police continue to investigate.
