Drug squad busts $1-M grow-op; two arrested

Winnipeg police wrapped up a lengthy investigation with two arrests and a bust of a mammoth marijuana grow-op worth close to $1 million.

Winnipeg's drug squad seized 854 pot plants under cultivation in a commercial property, Winnipeg police reported Friday.

The grow-op was housed in a building in the 1700 block of St. James Street.

One man was arrested at the scene of the raid two days ago; later a woman was located and taken into custody.

The couple were charged with trafficking and drug possession and were released to appear in court at a later date.

Police estimate the seizure was worth $956,000 in pot and another $16,000 in equipment.

Frederick Gordon Peters and Jane Peters face charges in the bust.
