Duplex fire doused

The residents of a duplex near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Austin Street watched from outside as a fire tore across the top floor.

Genevieve Anderson, who lives on the top floor, waited patiently as fire crews collected their equipment.

"We were outside out front when all of a sudden we heard the smoke alarm go on and I ran upstairs and the couch was already on fire," Anderson said.

She said she ran back outside and her grandkids called 911. Anderson said her 18-year-old and 17-year-old grandkids were taken by the police for questioning. Police blocked off the intersection and made way for the bomb squad to respond to the scene.

Fire crews were also on scene, and police and fire officials have not yet commented on why the bomb squad was called to investigate.
