Winnipeg will review whether some city employees should have to disclose their assets.
This morning, Coun. Ross Eadie (Mynarski) asked members of executive policy committee to consider having city employees in a position of making decisions which affect the public interest -- such as building inspectors, bylaw enforcement and permit staff -- disclose their assets and other businesses in order to prevent potential conflicts.
Right now, city employees must disclose potential conflicts to their managers.
Eadie said requiring certain employees to disclose all their assets -- like members of city council are required to do -- would be a good tool for department heads.
Recently, a city building inspector came under fire after Hollywood Homes Inc. alleged he sold him doctored engineering blueprints. The building inspector did freelance design work for a company registered to his wife.
Council's executive policy committee voted in favour of Eadie's motion. A city report is expected to be complete in 60 days.
