Family escapes Jamison Avenue fire

A Winnipeg family of five made it out of their burning house safely this morning.

Jenna Cruz was getting ready for work when she saw smoke, and realized her Jamison Avenue home was on fire.

"I saw the smoke so I quickly ran back and told my husband to grab the kids," she said while standing outside her home after the blaze was extinguished by city firefighters.

Cruz managed to escape safely with her husband Cristian, their three children, and the family dog. The fire is believed to have started in the basement of their house at 291 Jamison Avenue.

The family is currently waiting for an investigator to return with a damage estimate.
