Family escapes from burning home in northwest Winnipeg
WINNIPEG -- One man and two children, both girls, were treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire in northwest Winnipeg on Sunday evening.
The man and the two girls got out by themselves before Winnipeg fire crews arrived.
The fire, on Birchbark Bay, was reported just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday and remains under investigation.
Winnipeg fire reported that flames broke out in a second-floor bedroom and the fire was confined to the second floor. But the damage to the home was extensive, including $250,000 to the structure and another $50,000 to contents.
The two girls were both taken to Children’s Hospital and the man, 39, to Health Sciences Centre. The city’s animal services is caring for one dog and one rabbit, also rescued from the fire.
