A 64-year-old father has died after being rescued from the Red River in St. Adolphe on Sunday when his canoe tipped.
His 13-year-old son survived the tragic incident.
Sgt. Rob Lockhart said that the two were wearing life jackets when they capsized.
They "had departed earlier in the day to observe wildlife," Lockhart said.
When they capsized, a 60-year-old man "jumped into the waters and assisted the youth to shore," Lockhart said. "Members of the RM of Ritchot Fire Department launched a zodiac boat and were successful in rescuing the father from the water."
The father died in hospital in Winnipeg. His son was treated and released.
