A fire that destroyed a pig barn southeast of Winnipeg killed 1,100 pigs on Thursday.
St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP say the fire was first reported at 6 p.m. in the RM of Hanover, approximately 10 kilometres southwest of La Broquerie. When police responded the barn was engulfed in flames. Three local fire departments kept the fire under control.
The fire was extinguished at approximately 11 p.m. No people were hurt. The barn was completely destroyed.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting in the investigation, which continues. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
