Alonsa hotel fire not considered suspicious

  • Print

Investigators say a fire that destroyed the Alonsa Hotel, located about 215 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, was likely caused by an electrical problem and is not considered suspicious.

The RCMP and MB Office of Fire Commissioner are involved in the investigation.

RCMP say there were no guests at the hotel in Alonsa at the time, and no injuries were reported. The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. when people inside the building smelled smoke and fled the building.

Several area fire departments responded, but the building in the town of about 1,400 could not be saved, RCMP said in a news release. RCMP and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet. Damage estimates are not available, police said.
