Fire damages house, garage and trucks

A fire in the North End overnight has badly damaged a house, destroyed a garage and burned two vehicles.
No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred about 4 a.m. in the 400-block of Garlies St., north of Mountain Avenue.
Firefighters said the blaze actually started in the garage and spread to the house. The fire also caused damage to neighbouring properties, including two garages.
"The flames were coming out of the garage and house. Whatever was close to them got damaged also," said one firefighter.
Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof of the storey-and-a-half home to fight the fire, which had damaged the rear of the house. The fire also consumed a garage that contained two pick-up trucks.
Officials did not immediately know the cause of the fire. Initial damage estimates were about $200,000.
