One man went to hospital with unknown injuries after a $300,000 fire at a home on Cordova Street Tuesday afternoon.
Fire and paramedic officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Neighbours said they do not believe the man was in the house at the time of the fire — they said people in neighbouring homes who were there when the fire broke out reported seeing the man run toward his burning home, then collapse without entering the house.
One neighbour said paramedics worked on the man with defibrillator paddles.
A man and woman and their two elementary-school-aged children reportedly lived in the house on Cordova, just north of Fleet Avenue in River Heights, but neighbours said they didn’t know much about the family.
Residents said they did not believe anyone was in the house at the time of the fire — although the family dog, which was inside, was rescued.
Heavy fire damage could be seen around the shattered windows of a bedroom on the second floor.
Across the street, several people keeping warm in a car with its engine running, said they wouldn’t be making any statement.
