Firefighter injured in garage fire

A firefighter was injured Wednesday night while fighting a garage fire in the Spence Street neighbourhood.

Firefighters were responding to the garage at 690 Furby St., just south of Cumberland Avenue, at 9:17 p.m.

One firefighter was reported to have suffered minor burns to his neck.

Alex Forrest, president of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, said the incident happened when protective gear on the firefighter’s face shifted, exposing his neck.

Forrest said the firefighter was taken to hospital for treatment.

"There’s no such thing as a ‘minor’ burn for a firefighter," Forrest said. "He’ll be off for quite some time."
