One worker was injured trying to put out a blaze at an etching business today.

Winnipeg Deputy Fire Chief Paul Guyader said the fire at Metal Etch at 1143 Sanford St. has extended to the roof and interior of the business, located at the end of a string of businesses in a row under one roof.

He said a group of firefighters on the roof were not in the area when a wall collapsed.

Mark Preston, who works in a business across the street from the fire, said the owner had burns to his legs, hands and forearms.

"I guess he was down trying to put out the fire but it got away," said Preston.

"A worker at a company nearby put bandages on him. I didn't think the burns were bad then I could see red.

"They were pretty bad."

The man was taken to hospital.

The cause of the blaze is not known yet.
