Firefighters sleep atop station to raise funds for muscular dystrophy

For once, a handful of Winnipeg firefighters are welcoming the heat.

On Tuesday, four members were hoisted onto the roof of Station No. 4, where they will be camped out for the next three nights with a goal of raising $30,000 of Muscular Dystrophy of Canada.

"Lucky enough, we hit the good weather," noted Chad Swayze, referring to the recent warm spell that has fallen over Winnipeg. "It’s almost like you’re on a vacation... but you’re stuck in one spot."

The campers will be on the roof until Friday, while volunteers will be doing a "road toll" asking drivers travelling on Osborne Street for donations from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
