Major fire at Glanbia Nutritionals flax plant in Angusville

Several fire departments have rushed to the scene of a major fire at the Glanbia Nutritionals flax plant in Angusville.

No injuries have been reported, but the damage is believed to be extensive in the plant, which employs about 30 to 40 people in the region.

Volunteer departments from Angusville, Russell, Rossburn, Birtle and Shoal Lake have responded to the fire, which apparently began around 6 a.m. at the industrial complex.

"They’re still trying to get it under control," said Staff Sgt. Matt Lavallee of the Russell RCMP detachment on Tuesday morning. "But nobody appears to have been hurt. That’s the main thing."

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Dense smoke from the fire billowed from the site, located approximately one mile south of the intersection of PR 476 and 45, between Russell and Rossburn.
