Firefighters warn against overloading circuits during hot weather

Winnipeg firefighters are reminding the public they can prevent fires by taking care not to overload electrical circuits during hot weather.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service released a statement this afternoon to remind residents to use dedicated circuits and not use extension cords when they plug in appliances such as portable air conditioners. Fire officials said residents should not increase the fuse or breaker size beyond 15 amps, and use alternate means to cool the home, including keeping doors and windows closed during the hottest parts of the day.
