First Nation council salaries should be online, says Taxpayers Federation
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it will push for posting online the salaries of First Nation chiefs and councils.
The federation is making a presenting today about Bill C-27 to the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development committee in Ottawa. If passed, the bill would put the salaries of chiefs and band councillors on the Internet for all to see.
"The bottom line is politicians, regardless of race or level of government, should have to disclose their pay to the public," the federation’s Colin Craig said in a news release.
"Greater transparency on Aboriginal reserves will help separate the good apples from the bad ones."
