Five people are facing assault and robbery charges after a brutal attack in the North End last month.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 28, a 42-year-old man was assaulted outside hotel in the 600 block of Main Street. The suspects punched and kicked the man to the ground before he was robbed of his cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects fled the area.

The man was able to walk away from the scene, but later encountered two of the suspects near the corner of Main Street and Henry Avenue. The suspects attacked the man again, this time causing serious injuries, before fleeing the area.

A passing motorist noticed the man and immediately notified police. The victim remains in hospital in critical condition.

After an investigation, Winnipeg police have arrested following suspects due to their alleged involvement in the attack: Shawna Sumner, 35; Angela Mousseau, 30; Warren Redhead, 33; and Valentine Sumner 35. A 24-year-old female has also been arrested. She was released on a promise to appear.
