A 60-year-old Florida man has been found guilty for trying to smuggle a loaded revolver through the port of Winkler.
Canada Border Service Agency officers examined Lowell Edwin Nickerson’s car on July 19 and found a loaded .22 calibre revolver under the driver’s seat. Nickerson was arrested, and two days later found guilty of two counts under the custom act. He was ordered to pay a fine of $13,000, and sentenced to time served (three days) by a Winnipeg Provincial Court judge.
This year, 11 undeclared firearms have been seized in southern Manitoba, according to a release by the CBSA. All firearms must be declared and meet licensing and registration requirements when crossing the border into Canada, the release stated.
