Four face manslaughter charges in city's 25th homicide

Four people have been charged with manslaughter in the death today of Leroy George Ross, 38, of Winnipeg.

It is the city's 25th homicide of the year.

Winnipeg police said a North End beat officer found Ross'  badly beaten body in the rear lane in the 300-block of Aberdeen Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Ross died from his injuries earlier today.

"The investigation has revealed that during the evening hours of Oct. 17 and into the early morning hours of Oct. 18, a drinking party was taking place at a residence involving numerous people," Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers said today.

"At one point during the gathering, a physical altercation involving three females and the male victim erupted. The victim was physically assaulted while in the residence, at which time the altercation spilled outside to the rear yard. "

Once outside, said Stothers, a male approached the victim and proceeded to assault him further.

Police believe the victim was left outside while the others returned to the residence.

Attending members took several individuals into custody.

Autopsy results are pending.

Charged with manslaughter are: Mary Sue Harper, 37, Linda Margaret McDoughall, 35, Debbie Rose Redskye, 42, and Swanson Annanias Ross, 42.
