Winnipeg church to air feed of funeral service for Ana Marquez-Greene

Winnipeggers who wish to take part in Saturday's funeral services for Ana Marquez-Green, the six-year-old girl from Winnipeg killed in the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting, can watch the service at a local church.

A statement from the Marquez-Green family today said the service will be held at noon at The First Cathedral in Bloomfield, CT.

For those in Winnipeg, there will be a live satellite feed of the service beginning at 11 a.m. at Grant Memorial Baptist Church at 877 Wilkes Ave.

"Ana's love for singing was evident before she was even able to talk," said the statement. "She never walked anywhere — her mode of transportation was dance. She danced from room to room and place to place. She danced to all the music she heard, whether in the air or in her head."

"We ask that you pray for the legions of people who are left behind to cherish memories of her."

The Marquez-Greene family moved to Connecticut from Winnipeg last year when Ana’s parents, both university professors in Winnipeg, took new jobs in the Newtown, CT area.

Jimmy Greene, her father, was a jazz instructor at the University of Manitoba for three years. Her mother, Nelba Marquez-Greene, had worked at the University of Winnipeg as a family therapist.

Over the past week, vigils for Ana have been held in Winnipeg at both universities and the Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, which the family used to attend.

Several funds have been set up to accept donations in Ana's name.

Canadians can donate to the Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Memorial Bursary, care of The University of Winnipeg Foundation, 901 - 491 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada R3B 2E4 or http://www.uwinnipeg.ca/index/donate-now .

Other funds for donations have been set up in Ana’s name at the places where her parents now work: The Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Music Scholarship Fund at Western Connecticut State University, and The Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Family Therapy Fund at the Klingberg Family Centers. The family has also said donations can be made in Ana’s name to The Artist’s Collective in Hartford, Conn.
