Gill promotes "crime-free housing"

MAYORAL candidate Rav Gill would like to make Winnipeg safer by ofering training for landlords and property managers in crime-prevention techniques.

Gill, a real-estate agent and property manager with In Towne Properties, says if elected he would introduce a program called "crime-free housing" that would see landlords visit police stations and pay $50 to learn about lighting, locks and ways to recognize gang activity. A similar program is in place in Edmonton, he said.

"Some of this stuff is common sense, but lots of landlords don't know any better," said Gill, adding the charge would cover the cost of the program.

Gill is one of five candidates attempting to prevent incumbent Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz from winning a third term in office.
