Girl fends off man trying to get at backpack, flees

An 11-year-old girl kicked a man who tried to get into her backpack last Wednesday morning in St. Boniface area and got away by running to her school.

Police said the girl was walking in the area of Rue Des Meurons and Dubuc Street when an unknown man came up to her, asked for drugs and tried to look in her backpack.

After she kicked him and ran away, she reported the incident at her school and then spoke to police.

Police are looking for a caucasian man about 50 years old who was wearing a green hoodie with the hood up.

Anyone with information relative to this incident is asked to contact police at 204-986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
