Gods Lake death being investigated as homicide

  • Print

The death of a 15-year-old female on Gods Lake First Nation is being treated as a homicide, RCMP said Friday following an autopsy.

The deceased has been identified as Leah Anderson of Gods Lake First Nation. Her body had been found last Sunday in the fly-in Cree community, located about 550 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. She had been missing since Jan. 4.

Her body had been mauled by wild dogs. The RCMP suspicion of homicide suggests the girl was dead prior to being discovered by the dogs. The reserve culled its stray dog population shortly after the female was found.
