Refrigerant was released into Grant Park High School today from a faulty air conditioning unit sometime before the school opened.
Winnipeg School Division says that no student entered the school today, but a ‘minimal number’ of building and maintenance staff is receiving treatment for possible exposure.
Hazmat crews are still in the school, which is closed for the day.
WSD officials are not aware of damage to the school.
The Winnipeg School Division said staff remain on site fixing the problem. Because it is Grade 12 convocation later today, and the third-last day of school, it was mainly special needs students whose classes and programs had to be cancelled when the problem occurred.
Officials said late this afternoon that the school will reopen Thursday morning. Report cards will be available late Thursday afternoon and again on Friday morning.
