Helmet credited with snowmobiler avoiding serious inury

The helmet of one of two snowmobilers who were thrown from their machines after they hit a culvert Wednesday likely saved one of the riders from serious injury, say RCMP.

The two snowmobilers hit the culvert while riding in a ditch at the Perimeter Highway and Wilkes Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One helmet received extensive damage and likely prevented serious head trauma, said RCMP Headingley Traffic Services. Alcohol was not a factor. Snowmobilers are reminded to watched closely for potential hazards.
