Homicide victim known to police

Very few details have emerged about the city’s latest homicide — the death of 49-year-old Orland Joseph Adams.

Winnipeg police say the man was beaten inside a home in a quiet St. Boniface neighbourhood Friday night.

Adams was described by several area residents in the Archwood neighbourhood as a disagreeable sort who argued regularly with his neighbours.

Adams, 49, was assaulted in his St. Catherine Street home Friday night and died from the injuries. Winnipeg police offered little information about the attack, except to say Adams was known to police.

Residents who spoke to the Free Press said they weren’t aware of the Friday-night assault. However, they said they didn’t feel threatened that violence had struck so close to their homes.

Adams had lived in the home with his common-law wife for seven years, neighbours said. She declined an interview with a Free Press reporter Monday.

No arrests have been made to date.
