Housing market hot in April

WINNIPEG — Last month was the second best April on record for sales of existing homes in Winnipeg, and the best ever for dollar volume of sales.

Winnipeg REALTORS Association figures released today show 1,346 properties sold last month through its Multiple Listing Service (MLS).

That was a 17 per cent increase from April of last year, when the flood-fighting effort put a damper on home sales, and only nine units shy of the all-time April record set in 2008.

The dollar-volume total for the month was a record $337.3 million, and a 25 per cent improvement over April 2011’s total of $268.8 million, the association said.

April’s flurry of activity left unit sales running four per cent ahead of last year’s pace after the first four months of the year — 3,829 versus 3,681. Dollar volumes were running 10 per cent ahead, at $926.4 million versus $839.3 million.

"So far so good sums up this year," said WR president Shirley Pryzbyl.
