Humane Society having Halloween sale on loveable mutts

If some plaintive howling could add to the ambiance of your house’s Halloween display – and you need some tail wagging and unconditional love the rest of the time - why not drop by the Winnipeg Humane Society and pick up a canine companion?

The non-profit animal shelter is at capacity with both dogs and puppies – 30 and 40 respectively – and has had to turn animals away for nearly a week due to lack of space.

Bill McDonald, CEO of the WHS, said the bottleneck is such that it can’t even put all of its dogs and puppies on display for adoption.

"Puppies should not grow up in a shelter environment. We have great adult dogs of every look and personality waiting for their new home," he said.

The WHS is discounting dogs and puppies in the hopes of moving many of them out. Adult dogs will be available for $99 and puppies for $149 on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, tattoo, first set of shots, de-worming, a two-week health check, six weeks of pet insurance and a City of Winnipeg dog license.

The WHS will be handing out treats to costumed adopters on Halloween although it cautions them not to wear face-masks as they can upset the animals.
