Jays' Loup tells city school kids to eat their veggies

Wonder when the last time is that the kids at Ecole Van Walleghem School in Linden Woods were addressed as y’all?

That’s how Louisiana-born Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Aaron Loup began a pitch about nutrition and exercise as he and teammates Jose Bautista and Brett Cecil visited the school this morning.

The Blue Jays’ winter caravan picked the school at random. The three players spent an hour in the gym, and promised a gift of baseball equipment will soon arrive.

"You want to eat your vegetables -- fruits are definitely big," Loup advised the elementary school students.

You’ll never know which vegetables you’ll love until you try them, slugging outfielder Bautista said, speaking from experience. "When I was young, i said I didn’t like things, and I hadn’t even tried them."
