Livingstone to challenge Steen for Elmwood-East Kildonan ward

  • Print

The civic election is more than a year away but at least one individual wants to enter the race.

Darryl Livingstone said he wants to challenge Thomas Steen for the Elmwood-East Kildonan ward.

"The odds are stacked against a non-incumbent," Livingstone said when explaining why he has declared so early. "It takes a lot of hard work, door-knocking and face-to-face."

Livingstone was the longtime executive assistant to Elmwood councillor Lillian Thomas, before she opted to retire from civic politics and did not seek re-election in 2010.

He later worked briefly for provincial cabinet minister Bill Blaikie, before he too retired from politics.

Livingstone, 37, is employed as the executive assistant to the executive director of the Western Canada Aviation Museum.

Livingstone announced his intention on his Facebook page.
