MP Joy Smith talks new foundation at News Café

One of Canada's leading anti-human trafficking activists dropped by the Winnipeg Free Press News Café this morning.

Joy Smith, Conservative MP for Kildonan-St. Paul since 2004, is on a campaign of a different sort these days – to raise awareness of young girls, usually 12 to 14 years old, who are being exploited for prostitution in Canada.

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just young women who are visible minorities who are being victimized, it’s "traditional" Canadians, too.

A spokesman from Smith’s office said an average of $250,000 can be made from each victim annually.
