IKEA Winnipeg draws hundreds to line up at midnight for 9 a.m. opening

While you were tucked away in your bed last night, a few hundred Winnipeggers braved the cold to vie for first in line - and the chance at $5,000 gift certificate - at the new IKEA.

Luckily, store management decided it wasn't safe for hours of sitting in the cold, and planned to allow up to 1,000 of the first customers inside the store until the official opening at 9 a.m.

There was a mad dash for the doors at midnight, and by 1 a.m. more than 300 people had settled in for an eight hour wait for the store to open.
